Staircases & Fire Escapes
Access to a mezzanine depends on the floors usage. A storage floor requires a staircase that conforms to Part K of the Building Regulations Document while an office mezzanine requires a staircase that conforms to Part M. Floors that are to be used by the public such as retail mezzanines, require a public access staircase.
We ensure that all of our staircases are designed to the current British Standards and are fabricated from mild steel. You will have the option of gloss, powder coat or galvanised finish for your product. At Focus Fabrications we have a range of different Staircases and fire escapes which include:
Industrial “Part K” Stairs
This is a standard industrial staircase which has treads that range between 800mm & 1000m with a handrail either side if required. Handrails must be a minimum of 900mm with a mid rail at 500mm. “Part K” staircases are common on storage mezzanine floors.
Fire Escape “Part M” Stairs
Ambulant disabled “Part M” staircases must be a minimum of 1.2m wide with closed treads. The treads must also have contrasting nosings. Handrails must be continuous throughout the staircase. A landing will be required if the treads exceed 11 (12 risers).

Public access staircases are required in retail, schools or in general public. Handrails are required to have a top rail height of 900mm with infill panels of either: glass, mesh, decorative steel panels or vertical bars.
For many years Focus Fabrications has offered designs, fabrication and installation on staircases and balustrade construction to many prestigious clients from the construction, retail and leisure industry. Stairs are fabricated to a high standard and conform to BS 5395 and building regulations.
On average most fire escapes and access stairs are fabricated from mild steel with treads designed to accept a variety of finishes. We will however give the option of upgrading the material to stainless steel to add that prestigious touch to a building of both quality and practicality.
